Working from Home Might Be Giving You Headaches

Written By Breen Chiropractic Clinic, PC on May 24, 2021

Headache TreatmentAs of January 2021, approximately 40% of the American workforce was still working from home. Now there’s talk of letting a sizeable chunk remain that way. The problem is we’re seeing a surge in headache patients at Breen Chiropractic that’s clearly related to the remote desk job life. Here’s why...

Why Working from Home Is Giving You a Headache

The pandemic caught some candid, headache-inducing work-from-home moments, including children having meltdowns while meteorologists tried to deliver the weather report, dogs insisting on playing with news anchors, trying to get video conference calls to work properly without Snapchat filters, and so on.

These aren’t the factors giving you recurring headaches.

Staying put at home in a situation like the coronavirus pandemic can lead to as much as 60% more screen time, according to the Nielsen polling company. All that extra blue light in your eyes hurts, which translates into a headache.

The crazy transition from office to home office meant no real office for a lot of people. A lot of headaches stem from bad posture and often people sitting on couches all day, hunched over a laptop. This is a recipe for tension headaches as your neck muscles strain to hold up your head.

Sleep has also been an issue for a lot of people. The home life has become the work life, blurring the line between personal and professional time. It’s thrown off a lot of people’s routines, leading migraines due to poor hydration, irregular mealtimes, and an inconsistent wake-sleep routine.

The extra lack of motion isn’t helping either. A lot of bodies are stiffening up and hampering circulation, both leading to headaches and migraines.
